The DGHS is one of the agencies of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of Bangladesh. DGHS stands for Directorate General of Health Services. In addition, the DGHS provides technical assistance to the ministry. The DGHS was established as directorate in 1958 during the Pakistan era. In 1980, it has been upgraded to directorate general. The head of DGHS is Director General. He is assisted by two Additional Directors General. Besides, directors, deputy directors, assistant directors and other officers and staffs helped him execute the responsibilities. In all medical college hospitals and divisional levels, directors are responsible for executive functions. In medical colleges or other academic institutions, there are principals. The development programs under the Ministry of Bangladesh is implemented through a Sector-wide Approach (SWAp). The SWAp is named "Health, Population & Nutrition Sector Development Program 2011-16 (HPNSDP 2011-16). Two important documents describe the current SWAp program adequately. These are Strategic Plan for HPNSDP 2011-16 and Program Implamentation Plan of HPNSDP 2011-16. Other reports, due to be published after end of each financial year called Annual Program Implementation Review (APIR) will show progress of implementation of HPNSDP 2011-16.
